Nog een speldenblokje

Op het weblog van Nenne stond een leuk boekje én een link naar het Museum voor Naaldkunst in Winschoten.
En ik woon er maar 20 minuten vandaan maar ben er nog nooit geweest. Ik las net op hun site dat ze in de zomer ook zonder afspraak open zijn en dan ga ik er zeker naartoe.

Maar ik zag nog meer leuks, namelijk dit:

I just read on their site that they are open in the summer without appointment and then I will certainly go.
But I saw more fun:

Op deze foto staat een oud speldenblokje. Met bovenop reclame van de fabrikant of zoiets.

On this photo is an old pin block. On the top of it there is an advertising from the manufacturer or something.


Als je ze aan de zijkanten prikt kunnen er nog veel meer spelden in. Wel jammer dat je dan maar 1 lapje hoeft te borduren. Voor de SAL die op 6 april gaat beginnen maken we toch maar 4 lapjes.

If they are punctured at the sides there can more pins in the little block. A shame that you only need to stitch 1 part. For the SAL on April 6, we will stitch 4 parts. It is to much fun making them.

Quaker pinkeep

Vroeger waren spelden duur en waren ze er erg zuinig op. Je stopte ze niet in een blikje of ergens los in je naaidoos maar je bewaarde ze in een pinkeep.

Previously pins were expensive and they were very careful with them. They did not put them in a can or somewhere in your sewing box, but you kept them in a pinkeep.


Hoewel de spelden nu erg goedkoop zijn, is een pinkeep nog steeds leuk.

Although the pins are very cheap now, a pinkeep is still fun.

When this you see...

Op verschillende borduurwerken kom je het tegen:
"When this you see, remember me".
Wat je bijna nooit tegen komt is de rest van dit gedichtje.

In 1736 werd het al gebruikt voor een merklap en het volledige vers luidt:

"When this you see, remember me,

And keep me in your mind;

And be not like the weathercock

That turn att every wind.

When i am dead, and laid in grave,

And all my bones are rotten,

By this may i remembered be

When i should be forgotten."

In 1785 maakte Sophronia Willard een lap met een soortgelijk gedicht:

The rose is red, the grass is green.

The days are past that I have seen.

And when the bell begins to toll.

The Lord have mercy on my Soul.

When I am Dead and laid in grave,

and all my bones are rotten.

when this you see remember me,

that I not be forgotten"
